Mahek Shah
Private Pilot and Licensed Drone Pilot
AviaDev Ambassador
Mahek is a 21-year-old Private Pilot and Licensed Drone Pilot, and a proud Diploma Programme graduate from the Aga Khan Academy, Mombasa. She has been part of the AviaDev Africa family since 2022, when she first joined the team as an Ambassador, in Cape Town.
With an unwavering passion for aviation and a dream that took flight at a young age, she continues to challenge the male-dominated narrative of the industry. Currently pursuing her Commercial Pilot's License, Mahek is committed to building a sky where more young women feel they belong.
She is the founder and curator of Wings for Women, an aviation consultancy and empowerment initiative she began at just 14. What started as a small series of STEM workshops is now growing into a pan-African platform providing mentorship, internship opportunities, and career guidance to young women. WFW has started working closely with leading aviation companies to create hands-on exposure in maintenance, operations, ground handling, and administration- helping women navigate their first steps into the industry with confidence and clarity.
Most recently, Mahek hosted Beyond Horizons, a flagship networking and dialogue event under WFW, bringing together students, mentors, and industry professionals- from all industries between ages 15-30. Brought to share stories, build bridges, gain mentorship and connections, the aim was to reimagine what the future of African aviation can look like: one where women are not the exception, but the norm.
