Christine Mwakatobe
Managing Director
Kilimnajaro Airports Development Company
Christine Gideon Mwakatobe is the Executive Director of Kilimanjaro Airports Development Company – the airport operator charged with managing Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro International Airport. Christine has over a decade-long experience in airport management and airport business development. She holds a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from the Business School of Netherlands and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Augustana University College, Canada. She is also an International Airport Professional (IAP) and sits on the Board of Directors for the International Airport Professional Community of Practice (IAP CoP) - a global premier “meeting space” for advancing the practice of airport management through interdisciplinary networking. Christine’s entry point into the aviation industry was first as an airport business development manager for Kilimanjaro Airports Development Company. In the role, she is credited for achieving significant aeronautical revenue growth over her nearly ten-year tenure - attributable to a doubling of airline operations at Kilimanjaro International Airport. In 2020, Christine was appointed as the first female Executive Director of the airport operator, first in an acting capacity - and in 2022, in a full-time capacity. Since her appointment, she has been responsible for steering the airport’s strategy to achieve significant growth in passenger volumes and aircraft movements amid a global aviation industry recovering from the after-effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
